With a sellout in the capital expected for the Wales vs Australia rugby match taking place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on 17th November 2024, we’ve provided some important information (as confirmed by Cardiff council) for people looking to park in the city.
Road Closures
From 7am, both Scott Road and Park Street will be closed to facilitate preparations at Gate 5 and to secure the area for fans waiting in line.
A city centre-wide road closure will follow from 12pm until 8:10pm, impacting the following routes:
- Kingsway: Closed from North Road to Duke Street.
- Cowbridge Road East: Closed from Cathedral Road to Westgate Street.
- Tudor Street: Closed between Clare Road and Wood Street, with limited access for residents and traders via Fitzhammon Embankment.
- Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street: Closed between Despenser Place and Tudor Street, with local access provided for residents and businesses.
Other key streets entirely closed include:
- Duke Street, Castle Street, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street, and Scott Road.
For buses only:
- Station Terrace and Guildford Street will permit bus access from Newport Road to Churchill Way, maintaining connectivity to Churchill Way’s bus satellite points during the closure.
Lastly, Penarth Road will close 30 minutes before the end of the event and remain closed for up to an hour afterward, enabling safe access for train passengers as they arrive and depart.
Where to Park for Wales vs Australia
Parking in the city centre will be awkward due to long waits and road closures (which Google Maps and the like will likely ignore).
The best place to park for Saturday’s game is at Gol Centres Ltd, Lawrenny Avenue, CF11 8BR, Cardiff.
Based a 25 minute walk from the Principality Stadium, Gol Centres is easily accessible from the M4 and crucially means it’s easy for motorists to get away after the match without having to deal with the congestion of the city centre.
It’s open from 10 AM and closes 90 minutes after the match ends and costing just £25 means you’ll be getting parking for around £2.50 an hour. They also have toilet facilities as well as a bar with hot food, coffees, teas, soft drinks and confectionary.
The car park is covered by CCTV and will be monitored by staff working at the centre to give you extra peace of mind.
Please note that the parking is pre-bookable online and they don’t accept cars who haven’t booked in advance.

Parking and Taking the Train
A good option for most is to park at Gol Centres and then get the train from Ninian Park station.
Ninian Station is just a couple of roads away from Gol Centres and will take you to Cardiff Central in 6 minutes. The price for a single is £2.70 or £1.75 with a railcard.
