With thousands expected to descend on the capital for the Wales vs Ireland 6 Nations rugby match at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, we’ve put together a concise parking guide to help you navigate the city with ease.
Road Closures
To accommodate preparations at Gate 5 and ensure the safety of queuing fans, Scott Road and Park Street will be closed from 7:00 AM.
A full city centre road closure will be enforced between 1:30 PM and 9:45 PM, affecting the following routes:
- Kingsway (from North Road to Duke Street)
- Cowbridge Road East (from Cathedral Road to Westgate Street)
- Tudor Street (from Clare Road to Wood Street) – Access for residents and traders via Fitzhammon Embankment
- Plantagenet Street & Beauchamp Street (from Despenser Place to Tudor Street) – Access for residents and traders remains open
The following roads will be fully closed during this period:
- Duke Street
- Castle Street
- High Street
- St Mary Street
- Caroline Street
- Wood Street
- Central Square
- Westgate Street
- Quay Street
- Guildhall Place
- Golate
- Park Street
- Havelock Street
- Scott Road
During these closures, Station Terrace and Guildford Street (from Newport Road to Churchill Way) will be accessible only to buses to maintain transport links to the Churchill Way satellite stops.
Additionally, Penarth Road will close 30 minutes before the game ends and remain closed for up to an hour post-match to ensure the safe movement of train passengers.
Where to Park for Wales vs Ireland in Cardiff
For convenient parking just a 25-minute walk from the Principality Stadium, away from any busy roads, secure your space at Gol Centres Ltd, Lawrenny Avenue, Cardiff, CF11 8BR.
If you want to get to the stadium in a swifter fashion, you can combine a short walk with a short train journey from Ninian Park > Cardiff Central.
Train Route (Approx. 10 minutes including waiting time):
- Exit Gol Centres and turn right onto Lawrenny Avenue.
- Take a left at the end of Lawrenny Avenue and continue walking until you see the Ninian Park station sign (approximately 5 minutes away).
- Take the train from Ninian Park Station to Cardiff Central (one stop, approximately 3 minutes).
- Upon arrival at Cardiff Central, exit the front of the station, take a slight left and walk towards the Principality Stadium, which is a short 1-minute walk away.
